Glentauchers is not exactly a beautiful distillery. The home of the famous Black & White is a veritable factory that produces bulk malt for the blenders. It can easily be found with independent bottlers, though. This week I will put three head-to-head, all of the 18 years old and at cask strength. Let’s start with this one from Bartel Rawlings.

Fresh, summery nose on young apples, vanilla, freshly cut grass, mint and lemon. Some breakfast cereals. Yes, Kellogg’s original corn flakes! The second whiff adds some unripe banana.

The body might have been a bit bigger, but it tastes nice. Fruity (more of the same) and feisty. Think pepper, ginger and a pinch of cinnamon.

Medium long finish on apple, vanilla and pepper.

Very quaffable and would do nicely on a summery terrace. Thanks, Peter!
