This Glentauchers (say 'glen-tock-ers') was bottled by the German Indie Whisky-Fässle and released in 2014. After reading these notes, you will agree that it was a good thing that this single bourbon barrel at cask strength did not disappear in Ballantine's, Chivas Regal or Teacher's Highland Cream.

The nose is very similar to the Glentauchers 1996 from Highland Laird that I just tried. But it is a tad sweeter and rounder. Less corn flakes, more fruit. Think peach, apricot, mango and banana. Sweet and sour apples. Vanilla, mint and a hint of wild flowers. Becomes creamier if you leave it to breathe.

Nicely creamy on the palate too. Fruity and sweet with a herbal twist. Green garden herbs support all the white and yellow fruit from the nose. Nice spiciness too. Think pepper, ginger, liquorice and camphor. Good balance by the way;

On the medium long finish the spices fade in favor of banana and vanilla.

Summer dram with a fine nose, fine palate and fine finish. What’s not to like?
