Asta Morris is now also being enjoyed in the Land of the Rising Sun? Yep, there is no limit on Crazy Bert’s ambitions. And rightfully so. His bottlings (bar one or two exceptions) are always of the highest quality. The range with the bubbly labels are price crackers as well and hence a good way to get to know that obscure distillery. So now Asta Morris has a bottling of Glentauchers, launched in Japan for Gaiaflow, a new player on the Japanese drinks market, founded in 2012 and lead by Taiko Nakamura.

Pretty mineral and fruity nose. Gooseberries and tangerines, dressed up in kefir, vanilla and flowery honey. Soft on the spices with pepper, ginger and with a bit of fantasy a twig of mint in the background. Hint of white chocolate and something that reminds me of edible chestnuts. Fresh fellow.

Honeysweet and very spicy on the palate. The sweetness comes from the same fruit from the nose, but those are quickly joined by overripe banana and peach on syrup. Lemon tea. The oak starts to mingle.

Nice, long and spicy finish, in which the oak has the final word.

Well, good afternoon! Or konichiwa as they say in Japan. Very nice stuff. If they play cards in Japan, this baby will be gone quickly. Hard to get a hold of in Belgium, as only two or three cases were left behind.
