In 2010, this first single cask from Goldlys, a distillate from 1989, was bottled. So it is 21 years old, which means that Goldlys was making whisky long before any of us had any inkling.
The nose is very creamy ans sweet. Rye, banana, dades, caramel and a touch of mint. Some coffee and furniture polish. Chocolate milk? Garden herbs. Not bad at all.
It is creamy and well spices on cloves and a mix of peppers, honeysweet like a bourbon. But there is a chemical edge that is midly repulsive. A little perfumy. Midpalate it turns somewhat oaky. The influence of the sherry cask is limited.
It makes up for things in the finish, by becomes somewhat sweeter again.
Older does not mean better by any means. I will gladly take the 12 Year Old Amontillado Finish over this one. Way back when this was released, it was only 30 EUR, which was ridiculously cheap.
