@CognacFan, I have sampled two very generous samples from two different bottles of the original 2007 release Wiser's Red Letter, both provided to me by @paddockjudge. I also own an unopened bottle of the 2007 Wiser's Red Letter. I have not tasted the more recent release of Wiser's Red Letter, so I cannot comment on that one. Wiser's Red Letter 2007 is an excellent whisky, but not very rye-y.

Thanks @Victor, very interesting and helpful, and I'll contact Billy. Moving away from rye but staying Stateside, just yesterday I bought a bottle of Willet Pot Still Reserve after seeing it at what I thought was a keen price of £40 here in the UK. I've never had it but I see from your review that you're a big fan of that too. I look forward to trying it. In the meantime the next rye purchase will have to wait (my eight week old daughter's arrival has inhibited my whisky budget somewhat) but in a month or two I will look to pick up something new and interesting, perhaps one of your recommendations.

@dougwatts, Willett Pot Still Reserve Bourbon is a little different than the Willett Family Estate numbered, and sometimes named, bottles which I have reviewed to date. Those are all numbered individual bottles, whereas the Pot Still Reserve is a batch whisky. What I have tasted of the Pot Still Reserve has been variable, but usually quite good. Most of the time Kentucky Bourbon Distillers (KBD) is quite skillful in maturing the various sourced distillates which they procure.
KBD just 2 years ago re-opened the Willett distillery, and whiskey from it has just for the first time recently become available. I was astounded by how good their first batch of rye whiskey was at 2 years of age. I would most definitely not have believed it if I had not tasted and smelled it for myself.

@dougwatts, my mistake about Willett Pot Still Reserve. Willett Pot Still Reserve is indeed a single barrel product, and you do get the single barrel information on each bottle.
The differences between Willett Pot Still Reserve Single Barrel and Willett Family Estate Single Barrels are:
1) the Pot Still Reserve is marketed by KBD through regular retail channels of distribution, whereas the Willett Family Estate whiskeys are selected by individuals or companies and then privately bottled for them by KBD.
2) Willett Pot Still Reserve is sold at at standarised 47% abv. Willett Family Estate Bourbons and Ryes are sold at Barrel Proof.
Sorry for the confusion.

Don't pass over the Jeffersons 100% Rye. Just revisited it and it's fantastic and not too expensive.

I tried it. It's not bad. A lot of flavour for 40%. And currently $25 at the KGBO.....

I will happily add my vote for Lot 40, Rittenhouse 100 BIB (old label...I haven't tried the new label, but have read feedback similar to @maltygirl about the new label bottling not being quite to the same level of overall quality) and, of course, anything in the BTAC including Saz 18 and Handy (while unfortunate, the hype/hysteria over the BTAC is justified).
