This 13-year-old Isle of Jura from 2006 was given the name Two-One-Two, which refers to small community on the island, which at the time of bottling consisted of 212 people. It matured in ex-bourbon barrels, but then got a finish in chinkapin oak, sometimes also called yellow chestnut oak, which can be found in the Ozark Mountains in Missouri.

The nose is very pleasant with nice notes of stewed fruit (think apricots and peach but also some apples and a hint of banana), supplemented with a good spiciness. A touch of molded wood, which I often encounter in (modern) Jura. Something from freshly baked cake. The hint of wet newspapers (which I encounter even more at Jura) fortunately does not bother me in this case. Good nose!

The body is on the light side and on the palate it is immediately very spicy. Quite a few wood herbs now though. The chinkapin has left its mark. And in this way unfortunately also suppresses the fruit quite a bit. The peach and apricot is barely to be discovered. Instead I get some orange peels and vanilla. Walnuts sprinkle some more bitterness around. Not bad, but the nose promised a lot more fruit.

The finish is relatively long on walnuts and cloves.

Nevertheless, one of the better recent releases of this house that I have already tasted. Much better than the 10- or 12-year-old. This is at the level of the 18-year-old or the Seven Wood.
