The Isle of Jura 1976 was very much to my liking, so the expectations for this 1977 are pretty high. In this case it is a mix of bourbon barrels and a port cask. So it must be sweeter, I think.
Walnuts! That is the first thing that jumps out in this sweet and sour nose. Then some wet rocks, mild peat and linseed oil. Slowly but surely the fruit climbs to the surface: oranges, peach, mango, apricots and pomegranates. A bit of menthol and quite mineral. I love it.
Very spicy arrival with loads of peat. Yes, mustard and walnuts come first, but it is not as salty as the 1976. Seville oranges, curry and sweet liquorice with a twist. Some aniseed, maybe?
The long finish becomas a tad bitter and dry, but remains very spicy. Sweet at the death.
Complex and fascinating Jura with a fruity nose. It will set you back some 600 EUR though.
