It is certainly not the first time that the German The Whisky Agency joins forces with the Japanese Three Rivers. This time both parties opted for a 28-year-old Isle of Jura from 1992. What a nice label. I do like that kind of nonsense.

Oh, oh... the first sniff reveals what I sometimes dare to describe in Jura as 'baby-breath' (by which I actually mean the little one's puke ...), which takes some getting used to. The sweetness of banana and peach tries to make up for thing, but fails. It is drowned out by the previous note as well as a goat cheese crust. Wet cardboard and jute bags kick in. You are either for or against, it seems to me. Today it is disappointing, I must confess.

Great body, nice and sweet and pretty seasoned. Now I do get nice notes of the yellow fruit, but also a big spiciness that dominates. Soft peat that creates an equally soft smoke development. But also a very bitter touch like walnuts and Sevilla oranges. Sandalwood.

The finish is long, spicy, sweet and sour – especially sour. Difficult. And dry.

What a tricky malt. It certainly has some characteristics that can appeal to me, but also too many that make me frown. This was praised by a number of acquaintances, but I am apparently on a different wavelength.
