Did you know that Jura is Norwegian for deer? Rather apt if you know that there are about 300 Diuriachs as opposed to some 6.000 of the animals with antlers. Anyway, this Special Edition is a vatting of 10 to 14 year old whisky. Let us see if it is indeed special.
The nose is special, sure, very good, fruity and even jammy. I am not used to this from Jura. Think orange marmalade with some apricot and rhubarb jam in the mix. The wonderful sweetness is underlined with a subtle but very nice touch of smoke. Some jute underneath, but it is anything but an off note. This is simply delicious.
It is very creamy and mouthcoating. Immediately sweet with all the fruit from the nose and more. Oranges take the lead. Roasted and sugared almonds. Some praliné. Marvellous. The smokiness and oak support the whole and make for a wonderful balance.
The finish is long and intense. Again oranges in the lead, followed by caramel and licquorice.
As far as I am concerned, this is a top dram! Less than 40 EUR. A steal.

Great review... you always seem to cover the obscure ones. :)
I'm curious... do you know anything about the release details for this one? Is it truly a "limited release" or just available in "limited" markets? I've seen it at a local store here in Taiwan for about €29 and I'm curious to try it. Not much info about this one online...
