I have not tried that many Jim Beam – I hear little good about it and my own experience corroborates this – but a single barrel? That cannot be bad, can it? Otherwise the powers that be surely would not go through the trouble of bottling this, right? So I was intrigued enough to give it a go.

Sweet nose on vanilla and coconut milk, mint and mandarin, furniture polish and Manuka honey. Some banana, melon and hazelnuts, but not a trace of nail polish remover – something I often get on the nose with other Beam bottles. This is very soft and pleasant.

Soft on the palate, despite the higher ABV. Honeysweet on… errr… honey. Caramel and the same fruit as on the nose, but with a lovely spiciness that is under control. Not biting or feisty. Think nutmeg, cinnamon and cloves. A touch of black pepper. Nice.

The long finish becomes a bit more spicy, but never over the top, somewhat drying but not so much that you would reach for a glass of water. Totally devoid of any overt bitterness.

This is a nice one. This is a lovely bourbon that sips easily. And that for less than 40 EUR.
