Johnnie Walker Green Label

In a conversation with a brand ambassador from Diageo, I learned that Johnnie Walker Green Label is being stopped. Because I found it personaly the best in the range taking into account the quality/price relation , I started looking for remaining stocks in whisky shops or large department stores . Not an easy task , untill last week where I discovered a shop where they still had a dozen of bottles..... Is this an exception or are there still stocks available in numerous places ....?

@expesivevino. My impression is that there is still a lot of it around. The BC Liquor Stores web site shows 674 bottles in stock. I noticed they have just listed the JW Platinum Label at $109 and the JW Gold Label Reserve at $150. These are supposedly the replacements for Green and Gold and they are significantly more expensive.

BTW @EvaRees. I recently bought a litre of JW Green at the border for $48 and a litre of Ardbeg 10 for $50.

It’s still available here in he UK and can be found in supermarkets like Tesco, Asda and Waitrose for around £30. Every now and again it’s on offer for between £20 and £25. My plan is to stock up next time it hits £20...

I got those prices screwed up. JW Gold Reserve is $75, which indicates that it is not an 18 yr old like the previous Gold, and Platinum is $150. Those are the prices in Vancouver, BC. They are probably a lot cheaper elsewhere.

Previous postings had suggested that JW Green Label was not going to be discontinued until late in 2013.

@Victor That's what I thought Victor. I hope its the case so I can snag 4 or 5 bottles before they stop releasing it.

still easy to find in Quebec. Why would you stock so much of the Green? I admit it is a very good blended malts but the future looks bright (ex. Compass Box). I would a bottle of 2 to enjoy in a couple of years but that would be it. I wouldn't expect a great rise in value on the auction side of things.

@JoeVelo Agreed. We'll be seeing plenty of Green Label for the next several years I think, and current bottlings at auction for a long, long time as the hoarders unload their stashes due to a lack of collectible value (great for us drinkers of course). I'm in no rush to stock up on it, unless I see a sale somewhere at my local giant liquor store/s.

@JoeVelo I would pick up 4 or 5 bottles as Green Label holds some sentimental memories for me. I highly doubt that it'd ever become a collectable or worth very much, but more so that whenever I want to revisit old memories all I have to do is crack open a bottle. That being said I hope they keep releasing it until 2013 as there are more important bottles and a trip to Scotland that I would rather save for.
