Sunny yellow; nose of berries and citrus; body light, yet determined; fine grains give way to a hint of spicy vanilla, a decent balance; a bit short on finish, but still enjoyable. On par with Clan as my go-to blend at this price; Very sound dram.

J&B Rare: quite solid and rather underestimated, probably because of familiarity and a mellow character. This is a blend which I enjoy drinking.

Is this on the same level sa JW red label? Cos I was surprised this J&B is cheaper than the red :)

@mct, try the J & B Rare and see what you think.

I am not likely to ever again buy a bottle of Johnnie Walker Red Label. I did buy 375 ml of it once about 25 years ago, but that bottle was hellaciously bad. That one was painfully hard to take the tiniest sip. Nowadays Johnnie Red is like playing craps: you might find some you enjoy, but you could also be buying something which is pretty terrible. Yes, you might occasionally find a bottle/batch of Johnnie Walker Red which is enjoyable,...but you can NOT count on that. Purchased without having tasted from the specific batch first, I would choose J & B Rare every time over Johnnie Walker Red Label.

thanks! I'll just take your word for it. Ive always had this notion that the low-end variants such as red label contain artificial flavors (liquid smoke?) or maybe im just crazy.
