Just a heads up for those of you who are thinking of turning seasonal gifts into store credits at the LCBO.
Apparently you need a receipt if you want a store credit or gift card. If you have no receipt you can do what they call an "exchange" - but you have to buy the equivalent value there and then.
I made the decision to unload 60% of my holdings in Forty Creek 3 grain Harmony... procured before I had actually tasted the stuff. It was delivered to me by a friend so I had no receipt. I contacted the LCBO online ("Hello LCBO") and luckily printed out a copy of the response saying that I could get a gift card without a receipt.
When I arrived at my local liquor monopoly I was told I had to buy an equivalent value in exchange. Now I was planning on buying something but not today...it has not been released yet. I would have been out of luck if I hadn't had the reply from the LCBO printed out. I showed it to the lady who said "they're wrong". I pressed my case, politely, and she called the person at the central office who had replied and tore a strip off him for getting it wrong, but given that I wasn't prepared to leave with the whisky and come back another time, she arranged for the manager to honour the promise I had received. I walked away with a sizeable gift card I hope to use when something special I want gets released this Saturday... if I can get my hands on it.
@Nozinan I took back some Crown Royal gifts (no receipts) to the store I knew had what I wanted and the clerk just gave me a gift for their value. In the past I had to do exactly what they told you at the store, trade for a product right there and then and pay the difference if greater value.
Still not sure what is the policy, depends on the store I guess.
