And independent Laffie from a sherry cask, what will that be like? Bottled by Jack Wiebers. This whisky, of which 300 bottles were produced in 2006, is a 10 Year Old Laphroaig at cask strength.
The nose is sharp with a whole bottle of iodine, the chemical element with atomic number 53, also known as the typical smell of antiseptic alcohol. Apart from that some maritime elements, but those are kept in check by the sherry, that manifests itself as caramel and fugde. After a few moments, it becomes quite fatty and meaty and offers mashed patatoes! Nicely spiced.
The alcohol, peat and citrus are the first to arrive on the palate. With citrus I mean oranges, mandarin and grapefruit. Add the peel of the grapefruit, while the orange is caramelized. The sherry gives it a sweet side (think caramel and vanilla), but contrary to the nose, it does not dominate.
The sweet finish is medium in length, on pepper and peat.
Very nice whisky. It reminds me of the 13 Year Old by Malts of Scotland that I tried a few months back (and which was a tad better).
