Raw Cask means cask sediment, those ugly little black bits in your glass. I do not care much for those, I admit. Seems more like a gimmick, since the whisky is filtered, despite appearances. If it were not, it would contain splinters and such as well, no? Anyway, this very pale Laffie was bottled by Blackadder.
It smells rather antiseptic, but not overly medicinal. Does that make sense? A little salt, a touch of citrus and some ashes. But altogether I find it to be somewhat flat.
The palate is much better. Light peppers, a lot of peat and ashes, smoked ham and dried fish. Loads of citrus. Not very surprising. Mild for a Laffie (lacklustre would be more precise).
The finish is medium long, peaty and sweet/salt.
This is a rather dull Laphroaig. Nothing wrong with it, fair, but I expected a bit more punch and charisma from Blackadder. Just over 100 EUR. Thanks to Jeroen for the sample.
