I'm waiting for next year's Cairdeas Feist Ile. Whatever it will be--port, sherry, you name it--I want to taste the dang stuff this time around! I keep missing out! Argh!

@lmann86 - whare was that? In NJ they are all "store pickup only", price is higher + tax... How is the origin compared to the Port wood? Anyone compared?

I managed to get my hands on a couple of bottles - ordered them straight from the Laphroaig site (best thing to do if you want to get your hands on limited releases). They're sitting on my bar waiting for an opportune moment to be tasted and reviewed.

Though, generally, the word is that it's not all that great but I won't take anyone's word for it!

PS : While on the subject I'm totally against Chill Filtering as well as coloring. I think the beauty of the whisky is it's ever changing personality. I for one would welcome discovering different characteristics with each year's releases. But that's just me...

So my bottle arrived, and lo and behold - it is not in a purple box but green - they gave me the 2012 Origin and not the 2013 Port wood. I am sure it is good and rare, but I called them nontheless. Customer service at Liquor Outlet Wine Cellars, Boonton, NJ apologized for their mistake and let me purchase the portwood at a price so ridiculous I almost refused. It will take it a while to reach me, as it is in the US and I am in Israel, but it will, and I'll have my own HTH. Very happy the way it ended...

So, having tadted both 2012 and 2013, I love them both. The Origin is simply an excellent Laphroaig - everything you could expect and nothing you wouldn't. I prefrred it to the 25, at a fraction of the price. The Port wood edition is unique as Laphroaigs go, a little "hot" - I guess younger than I would prefer it - but great nontheless - I love the peat and I love port wood finish, and I their combination is superb. Overall I prefer the more staight forward Origin, but would love to have the Port wood at hand for those moments that call for something different. For as long as my bottles last, the Origin is my whisky of choice at the $50-80 range.

I'm kinda glad this one got woke up again. I managed to get a couple of bottles for my self and had a taste of the 2013 Portwood edition. It is not a very good whisky and it's easy to see why. I have a review some where in Connosr but it's going to take ages for me to find it so here it is on my blog : maltactivist.com/2013/09/…

Those who like this particular flavor profile I guess to each their own. I am not a big fan.

The 2012 Cairdeas Origin is quite nice on the other hand. I have some tasting notes here: maltactivist.com/2013/09/…

And I guess while we're on the subject here's a look at the Cairdeas Master : maltactivist.com/2013/08/…

I find the Master & Origin very similar to each other. The Portwood is somewhat left field in my opinion.
