Laphroaig Old Malt Cask 15yo 2011

Sometimes independent bottlings are only a pale shadow of the distillery they represent. But I've always found Old Malt Cask to be one of the better independent bottlers and this one certainly does not disappoint.

All the classic Laphroaig hallmarks are there - peaty, briney, maritime nose. I visited the distillery a year or so back and this brings back the memories of looking out over the boggy shores and glimsping Ireland on the horizon. Tried neat, there is a sweetish tinge on the palate that really adds to the complexity of this one. Just a tiny drop of water brings out drier, saltier characteristics. With a long, dry finish this is one to really savour.
