I recently was offered the possibility to try no less than nine Ledaig from Gordon & Macphail’s Connoisseurs Choice head-to-head, all distilled between 1990 and 2004 and bottled between 2011 and 2017. Well, that was an opportunity I could not pass up. Let’s give those a go. This is the Ledaig that was distilled in 1996 and bottled in 2013. It matured on Refill American Hogsheads.

Oh! Now we’re talking! This nose is very dirty, just the way I like it. Play-doh, stockfish, Wellington boots and wilted flowers. A surprising note of salami, I kid you not. Burn ointment. The works. Top.

Nicely peaty on the palate as well. Smoked ham, stockfish, lots of herbal and medicinal notes. The smoke development is grand and puts my mouth aflame. Very good.

The finish is long and satisfying and very peaty with lots of soot!

Very good Ledaig that has not lost any of it’s peatiness. That does mean that this session as at an end. Picking up again tomorrow.
