This official 20 years old Ledaig has spent an equal amount of time on the bourbon barrels as in the bottle. It was bottled in 1999, just over twenty years ago. The sample was provided by my Dutch whisky buddy Manny. Iām looking forward to this one.
The nose is simply delicious on toffee apples, toffee, candied orange peel and milk chocolate with some soft peat and sea salt in the opposite corner. Peach and a hint of ashes. Leather and cigarette tobacco. Nice, indeed!
The body is very light, but immediately shows some salt & pepper, fresh oak and peat smoke. Then the sweetness kicks in, with the emphasis on citrus fruit. Yes, it turns a bit bitter and sour as well, but all is well balanced making this a very nice Ledaig.
The finish is rather short, salt versus sweet ā the salt is victorious ā and smoky.
Lovely find. Quite expensive nowadays. Thx, Manny!
