A little over a year ago, you could get your hands on a special Ledaig (say ‘let-sjick’), approved by the Belgian shop Anverness and bottled by David Stirk’s Creative Whisky Company. It was a very quaffable 9 Year Old. Peter now takes that a step further. This Ledaig, again from the CWC and bottled in the same Exclusive Range, is even younger. Peter was able to secure 100 bottles of this 6 Year Old beastie. It is extremely pale, like white wine.
The nose is young and fresh and conjures up farmy scents: a lot of earth, hay and Wellington boots. Creamy, salted butter. Wet stones. And then some wonderful touches of citrus, some melon, vanilla and caramel. The soft peat is perfectly discreet.
The attack is quite peppery. Despite its young age, it carresses the tongue beautifully with a slight bite, quite some ashes and sweet fruit. Very clean. Dangerously quaffable.
The finish is long on lime and mild smoke.
Just like its predecessor, this Ledaig is very approachable and perfect for those upcoming fish barbecues. Only available at Anverness for around 45 EUR. Thanks for the sample, Peter!
