David Stirk bottled this Ledaig - the peated whisky from Tobermory - after 9 years in an ex-bourbon cask. It was bottled for the Exclusive Range, which is a selection of young, accessible and affordable whisky. Of the 381 bottles that cask 135 yielded, only 100 are available in Belgium, exclusively at the Belgian Whisky Shop of the Year 2011, Anverness in Antwerp (Berchem). The owner, Peter, tasted it and labeled it 'Approved by Anverness'.

The nose, while very soft, is immediately peaty & farmy, with earth notes, wellington boots and caramel. But it's also nicely fruity with citrus and something that reminds me of melon.

It sooths the palate without any bite, with light ashes in perfect balance with the sweet oak. Very, very drinkable and perfect with that fish barbecue you have planned for next weekend.

The finish is sweet with a bitter lining (but not oaky whatsoever) and medium in length.

This is a very good Ledaig and a nice introduction to peated whisky. Only on prescription at Dr Anverness, and almost gone too. Last time I checked, he had only 20 bottles left. Around 47 EUR.
