My name is Jay. I'm a South African whisky enthusiast, living in Holland. I have been drinking the stuff for many years now, but until a very short time ago, drowning it in water and adding ice as well. No excuses there, just ignorance and, well, each to his/her own I suppose. I have seen people adding Cola, Lime Cordial and other weird stuff to their whisky. Mostly plonk I might add, and, why not? If that's your thing...
I have a heavy South African palet, leaning towards, the Island whiskies like Talisker, Lagavullin, Ardbeg, Caol Ila and the like, but also some of the softer Islays like Bunnahabhain and Bruichladdich . I am not impartial to finding a Speysider in my hand though, especially if it's at cask strength. I am really fond of Springbank too. Mostly I lean towards the younger whiskies, up to about 18 years. I also enjoy quality blends. Johnny Walker Green en Black Grouse come to mind. Recently I discovered Sheep Dip Old Hibridean, on this very website. Love the stuff. Pity about the fact that it's bottled at 40%, but for the price, it's wonderful.
