Lochside Distillery closed in 1992 and was demolished in 2005. So far I have only tried old Lochside. So let me try a younger version today from this lost distillery. It is a bottling from Gordon & Macphail, containing whisky distilled in 1991 that was bottled in May 2005.

The nose is fresh and fruity, but also quite mineraly. Think pineapple, lime and oranges on the one hand, wet grass and wet rocks on the other. Some light honey, a touch of vanilla and some sweetened nuts. All the way in the back is a pinch of salt. Good nose.

On the palate it is a light and accessible dram. Again a lot of citrus, mostly grapefruit, but also apples and pears. Some white pepper, more vanilla, ginger and a bitterness from the oak. It also has a dusty side, that really pleases me.

The finish is rather short, bittersweet and drying.

A pleasant dram, that goes down easily.
