Whisky Import Nederland already bottled some beauties in their First Cask series. I remember a fantastic Highland Park 11 Year Old, a stunning Bunna 20 Year Old in the disguise of the Isle of Islay and a sober 20 Year Old Littlemill. Today I will try the 23 Year Old Longmorn from a refill sherry hogshead.
The nose is rife with the fresh and slightly sourish influence from the sherry: dark fruit, the likes of raisins, plums and berries, sprinkled with candied sugar. Some tropical fruit as well, like banana and coconut. Pretty waxy and spicy too.
It is mouthfilling and creamy. Honeysweet. Apart from the dark and tropical fruit, on the palate I also discover white fruit. Apples and pears. Well, a lot of fruit, you get the picture. Also reminds me somewhat of Christmas Cake, but without the custard cream. Very good. Very much so.
The spicy finish lasts forever.
Another great Longmorn and the ideal dessert dram.
