This is the second expression in the ‘Special’ series, from the young Swedish distillery Mackmyra. It was bottled in 2009, celebrating the 10th anniversary of the distillery.
The nose is very fruity with pineapple, green berries and vanilla, but also a touch of ginger. Adding water not only makes it sweeter, but brings out the oak.
Despite the 50,6% ABV, this ‘special’ is (too) easily drinkable, offering primarily sweet fruity notes (apple, pear), but also spicy oak. Oak is prominent. With a bit of water, the whole flattens out a bit.
I found the finish to be a little short, but quite peppery.
It’s obviously a young whisky. The wood is barely contained by the spirit. Around 60 EUR.
