Hmm...probably a marketing gimmick from the start. :)

I was watching TV this evening and I saw a Maker's Mark commercial for the first time ever. Pretty coincidental that it came out today, isn't it?

Conspiracy theories! I don't think so. Their back-and-forth devalues the brand, despite the fact that they are reversing their decision. The downside is, this may mean scarcer supply given the entire reason for the watering-down was based on their running low on inventory.

Maker's Mark invests in quite a bit of product placement in popular movies

@rigmorole - What a great way to serve up a stiff pour of excitement! I'm not so sure that Maker's has many recent placements in popular movies - likely to see Ritz, Jello, and of course, Jack Daniels in the movies before you see M M .

If I had to guess, MM has become a victim of its own marketing success, as it appears (imho) that they have been doing more advertising with respect to having Maker's be THE bourbon to put into a bourbon based cocktail...of course, it could just be me being more aware of whisk(e)y advertising in general over the past couple of years.

Im very happy that they aren't changing the recipe. I don't drink maker's mark often, but I was afraid of the precedent that this could set with other popular whiskeys changing the recipe to stretch product. This ultimately is a great thing for whiskey purists even if u don't drink makers.

@Nolinske, I completely agree with you. As consumers we need to make it very clear to these companies that we purchase their products because we like the products for what they are, not out of blind faith in a label.

When I read this thread some days ago I opened my bottle of Maker's Mark. This was the first time I enjoyed this dram. I have to say that I really like it although I normally tend to like heavy and intense whisk(e)y.

Thumbs up to the Maker's Mark guys for listening to the community. I really hope this wasn't a marketing trick!

I like Makers with Cola or in an Old Fashioned so I didn't care in the first place ;) I would like to see the Laphroaig 10 go up 3-5% Even if they charge some more
