The label Mackillop’s Choice is a product from Angus Dundee, a blender from London. Today, they also own Glencadam and Tomintoul, but also sell a vast amount of bulk whisky to supermarkets. Mackillop refers to Mr Lorne Mackillop, the company’s Master Blender. This Mannochmore 1984 matured for 15 years and was bottled at a pretty high cask strength.

Sweet nose on caramel, buttered corn on the cob and mildly bitter oranges. Hints of coffee and chocolate. Evolves towards red fruit to end in a soft, sweet nose that reminds me of the better rums out there. Soft on the spices too. Quite nice.

Spicy and rather dry on the palate, as if the whisky evaporates on the tongue! Loads of wood and surprisingly smoky. Again quite rummy on nuts and figs. Chocolate returns. Sturdy fellow.

The finish is long, spicy and warming.

This is only my third Mannochmore and I am pretty impressed!
