Zuidam Distillery in the Netherlands, Europe has become a rather well known name in the liquor industry concerning whisky, although Connosr hasn't listed the distillery or its brand name.The whisky of Zuidam is branded Millstone
I am rather fond of their rye whisky's. I have bought a bottle of Millstone 100 rye whisky a few months ago. It is 100 proof. It is 100 months old. It is 100 % rye grain. It is 100% American Oak. It is even 100% milled by Dutch windmills. So it is printed on the label.
It seems to improve in time after opening the bottle. I am told that this phenomenom is common regarding rye whiskeys . Victor has written about it mentioning Bulleit Rye.
Nose Cherry. Citrus fruit. Negmut. Cardemom. Cinnamon.
Palate Cherry. Coca Cola candy. Citrus fruit. Negmut. Cinnamon. Black Pepper. Herbs. Mint. A little honey.
Finish Cherry. Lots of Black Pepper. Mint. A little honey.
This rye is rather austere. It isn't very sweet. It may lack the taste of caramel for some of us.
I love it. I recommend it to all Connosr members. I think that Zuidam has done a great job producing this 100% rye grain whisky.
