Judging by the dark color of what is in my glass, the spirit of this Miltonduff slept on a rather active sherry cask. First fill, most likely. Anyway, it is young: distilled in 2004 and bottled after 11 years. It clings to the glass with a vengeance.
The nose is honeysweet on all kinds of dark fruit. Plums, rhubarb, grapes and raisins. Hint of pineapple on syrup. But there is also a trace of rubber. Yes, like a new tube for your bicycle. But it is certainly under control. Camphor and pine sap. A drop of rancio. Candied sugar and broth – a weird combo, but this is a great nose. You want to keep smelling it.
Wonderfully oily on the palate and surprisingly soft. It is very dark on the palate as well, if you understand my meaning. Plum jam on steroids. Something meaty. Some nuts as well. Very spicy. Nice continuation of the nose. And eminently quaffable without adding water.
The finish is exceptionally long, I feel. Creamy, spicy, sweet and warm.
Tremendously powerful and spicy Miltonduff, although I feel it is mostly due to the sherry cask. So what? Around 90 EUR.
