The reason why Miltonduff is not very well known as a single malt has everything to do with the fact that owners Chivas use the lion’s share of production for blends like Ballantine’s, Teacher’s and Old Smuggler. Cleary it is a fruity allrounder. But independent bottler Cadenhead released this Miltonduff 1994 a few years back at drinking strength.
The nose is sweet and malty. Reminds me of grain cookies and vanilla ice-cream. But from the first whiff it is also somewhat soapy. Reminds me of the candy bears from Haribo. Yoghurt with pineapple. Fresh and fruity but with a twist.
It has a rather light body. Soft on the spices, but very sweet on the palate. Yellow apples, but also pineapple and even some coconut. Yoghurt returns. Lemongrass, ginger, white pepper. Fairly piquanjt for this strength. Not bad at all.
The finish is medium long and returns to malt.
Once you get past the soapiness on the nose (which I did fairly quickly) this is quite a nice summer dram.
