C&S Dram is a German independent bottler run by Andrea Cammineci (the name reveals his Italian roots), who started out as a wine merchant in 2005. Let us try his Miltonduff 1989 from a sherry hogshead that yielded 211 bottles. It was released in 2013.

The nose is farily creamy and quite fruity, but it also has an edge of burnt caramel, which gives it an off-note right off the bat. Pity. Quite some forrest smells too, which I did not expect. If you leave it for a moment or two, it does improve. Then I get some pineapple, peach and a hint of lemon rinds and nuts. Rum raisins all the way in the back.

It is creamy and bittersweet on the palate. More bitter than sweet, I must say. Spicy too. Pepper, ginger, camphor. The fruit struggles to get through. Becomes a bit dry like green tea that has been infusing too long.

The finish is long, but the oak is too loud making it die a bitter death. I need a glass of water after this, which is never a good sign.

Far from my favorite Miltonduff, I must say. Thanks, though, Wim.
