@Misty, "Mitchers" or "Michter's"? If you are talking about Michter's Rye, I'd say it is OK, but it is far from a favourite for me among the ryes out there. What I've had has been a little dull, which is not the way Rye Whiskey usually is. I doubt I'll ever buy a bottle of it. See if you can get any bottling of Willett Family Estate Rye. Those are all sold at barrel strength.

...and there are other rye discussions on Connosr, and my Desert Island Rye List. I am guessing that your purchase options are limited. Best to start from asking about what you DO have available.

Thanks. I will see what I can source locally within budget (100€ a bottle) and get back for some advice. I think they had some Willet Rye but very young (4 years old I seem to remember).

O.K. Here we go:
Willet Rye 2, 7, 8, year olds. Also Willet Rye XCF (very expensive). Few Cask Strength Rye. EH Taylor Straight Rye (50% Abv).
Any of these jump out as execptional? I appreciated the Willet is cask specific, but I presume they are all generally good quality?
Thanks for your time.

@Misty, personally I'd go with one or more of the Willett 7 or 8 yo bottles, with no age preference between them. Yes the individual barrels do vary, but I haven't had a bad one. Willett Family Estate is a creme de la creme brand, and not a brand which would be available in most US liquor stores. The Col E H Taylor Rye is adored by many, here and elsewhere, including 97 point ratings by both @MuddyFunster and Jim Murray, and 95 points by @talexander . That one is not my personal favourite style-- I like them more pointed-- but it is an outstanding exemplar of the soft rounded style of straight rye, and if you can afford to get two bottles I'd strongly recommend both a 7 yo Willett and the Col E H Taylor BIB Rye @50% abv.

@Misty Having had the Mitchers as well as the Taylor and the Willet, I 100% agree with Victor. Willet ryes are the best example of an American rye in my opinion.

Thank you very much guys, it's great to get the feedback from people with experience. Time for some Willet I think and maybe a Rittenhouse 100 too!

Had the Michter CS rye a few weeks ago and I thought it was great. The regular Michter small batch rye and it was just ok. The CS is a Kentucky straight rye and the small batch is from Indiana. So different mashbills. I like the Willett ryes, but prefer the 4 year when you could get them. The 7 and 8 year Willett rye are expensive and just didn't have the same rye punch as the 4 year Willett. I believe the 4,7 and 8 year Willett are all Indiana rye , same as the Michter small batch.

Skip the Willett 2 year and Few rye. The EH Taylor rye is interesting but I wouldn't buy again at its price point. If you see the Pikesville 6 yr 110 proof rye grab that. It is the real deal

@Victor I have dreamed about Willett Rye's for some time now. The Michters cask strength will be available soon at the LCBO for the ludicrous price of $160 cdn. I am tempted to drive over to the Stillwater's Distillery and grab one of their cask strength rye's (60.2%, 3.7 years in ex-bourbon casks) for $99 cdn. I would offer up my extra ORVW 10 107 for one of the Willett's but alas none can be sourced in Ontario.
Luckily my sister is stock piling Masterson's Rye for me in another province for my annual visit.

Hi Guys,
Just a quick one on Rye. Never really tried any and am looking for one, at cask strength, for our next whisky tasting. Is Mitchers any good?
Thanks..
