There was much hype over the release of this Belgian spirit called 'Duvel Distilled' last December. Collectors purchased bottles of 50cl for ten times it's release price of 30 EUR (one bottle even sold on eBay for 771 EUR, madness!). So I just had to give it a try (from a miniature).

It's very light colored and the legs in the glass are irregular. Light body, to say the least.

It smells a bit grainy, like cookies, lightly floral and heather notes with a few spicy hints, vanilla and oak, but with somehting rather sour as well.

It's almost watery in the mouth. Floral, but mostly one-dimensional. Noth complex at all and rather disappointing.

The finish is light and rather short - hence easily forgotten.

Moortgat was right to call this 'Duvel Distilled' and not whisky. Too simply and too young at this point, but it might have a nice future ahead if only it gets more time to develop.

It does sound like the spirit is light and lovely, with a bit more time in cask, it might mature, gaining a little more complexity, and more interesting flavours, turning into something special.
