Mosstowie was distilled at the Miltonduff Distillery between 1964 and 1981 by means of two Lomond stills. For me it is only the third time that I put this malt to the lips and the previous one was already back in 2015! In the glass is a young Mosstowie that was marketed by Gordon & Macphail in the late 1980s in their famous and still popular Connoisseurs Choice. It was one of the oldies that Arne and Arnout poured at their birthday tasting in 2023.

You have to have some patience to let this old malt show his true colors. It starts with raw malt, followed by beer batter and bread dough and then slowly but surely evolves into a beautiful panoply of yellow and orange fruit in a stew.

The body is light, the taste as well. That's not to say this is weak, to be clear. I get yellow and orange fruit with some bitter walnuts, something of white pepper and ginger, hay and burlap bags. Something of anise and oak, too. Far from bad, but not really great as far as I'm concerned. A tad too astringent.

The finish is medium long, slightly drying on vanilla and tannin.

Nice, but the wood is just a little too loud for my liking.
