probably a bottle of Port Ellen, as it is the only Islay distillery I haven't tried yet. But in my heart I know that the steep price of a bottle can never be justified by its content. So probably something from Brora or St Magdalene

A Brora, or a Karuizawa. Those are the two distilleries that currently hold the most mystique for me.

I think I'd like to try a port ellen to know that I did it. Knowing a few molecules are in my BIG PEAT isn't the same.

Family casks from Glenfarclas or glendronach cask strength releases

Brora 30. My experience with older whiskies isn't very much. I had a dram of HP25, a 21 year Rye, and a few 18 year olds.
The Brora is such an iconic malt and from the description people give, it sounds amazing.
However, everyday the prices go up and the stocks go down. Oh well. heh

@OCeallaigh - Brora is right up there for me as well. I know what you mean about prices and stocks. When I joined Connosr in August of '12, the cheapest Brora I could find was a 30 yo Chieftain's IB for $250. Now the same bottle, if you can find it, goes for $450. And it's still the cheapest Brora I can find.
The one(s) I dream about, however, are the bottles of JW Red and Black that my father had in his cabinet. He passed away in 1974, and he'd had those bottles since the mid-'60s. Maybe it's not the most sophisticated choice, but it's said that JW was something special back then, and it was Dad's stock, after all. Knowing my mother, she probably just threw them out after he was gone. Which makes me want to taste them all the more.

Oh dear, seems like the ideal question to smash open Pandoras box. In no particular order : Karuizawa 48 Year Old 1964, Yamazaki 25 Sherry Cask, Brora 30, Ardbeg 1974 Provenance, Ardbeg 1980 Kildalton, Ardbeg 1995 Single Cask 2761 - Feis Ile 2010, Laphroaig 27 Year Old Oloroso Cask (2007 Release).

@WhiskyBee There is a Ralfy review where he compares a 1960's JW Red botteling with a modern one, it was rather different back then! Plus the emotional value would be priceless ofcourse:)

@PeatyZealot
I found an old JW red in my inlays' home. Probably from the 70s. Did the Ralfy experiment. Real difference.

@PeatyZealot - I saw Ralfy's review a couple of years ago. Until I saw it, I never gave much thought to my father's whisky supply, although I remember it well (several bottles were still in their original Christmas gift boxes). When Ralfy (and others I've read since then) spoke on the quality of the old JW, it aroused the nostalgic fantasies.

@WhiskyBee REALLY enjoy the old school JW's! As has already been noted they are such very different whiskies from what we see coming out of JW these days. By the way I loved your story about you and your fathers whisky collection. Those bottles truly are the best my friend!!
One bottle of whisky that I've never had before, such a difficult decision, but thankfully one that I can answer! Talisker. I'd love to try the old school Taliskers from when they did triple distillation, etc. I've heard the spirit was radically different. Had a chance to try a whisky that was thought to be a Talisker from 1910, but wasn't able to afford the 100 pounds per nip at the time.
And then there's the 1981, 20 year old, cask strength, sherry cask Talisker that everyone raves about. I want that, would give body parts to try it!

Those ultra rare and exclusive 50+ Year Olds: Macallan, Glenfiddich, etc.
The asking price for a bottle of these could well buy some body parts!
Otherwise, for something more attainable (relatively), keen to get some old skool Highland Park 25 YOs and Macallan 25 YOs from the 90's.

Well, if I wanted to go for bragging rights, there's the Gordon and MacPhail Glenlivet 70 year old. But if I wanted to be more practical, I'd go for a Karuizawa or something along those lines.
Truth be told, I got to try several 'dream drams' last year when I went to Islay. I got to try an Octomore 11 (amazing), a '75 Ardbeg and a '89 Ardbeg (which isn't supposed to exist, but was found misfiled). Pretty great stuff -- I meant to post about it here, but I never seemed to get around to it.

If you could choose only one bottle of whisky that you never had before, which one would it currently be if the money did'nt matter?
I would go for an uhm... a very old Springbank 30-40yrs because I never had a whisky older than 21 and I wonder what lies beyond.
