Hi @Volks, I haven't bought from Master of Malt, but have had multiple good shipments from thewhiskyexchange.com - they're my #1 for sure and minus VAT means prices are still great even after shipping. Have also bought from the WhiskyBase shop whiskybase.com and that was a great experience as well.

The only negative experience I've had is with whisky-online.com due to excessively large box for shipment and poor customs declaration which saw me slugged at customs. I mean sure, it's a gamble with customs anyway, but with The Whisky Exchange and Whisky Base they packed discreetly and didn't lie on customs declaration - I'm sure that's why customs weren't drawn to investigate further.

If you can handle a 30-50% chance of being slugged at customs (based on my experience) for small shipments (2 or 3 bottles) then buying from major online whisky retailers can save a lot of money - not to mention the incredible variety of bottlings which you'd never see here in Oz.

Hope that helps, cheers.

Hi @Volks, I'm UK based, have bought from many different websites this year, and my last purchase was from Master of Malt. I was really impressed with the delivery service they provided for me, and was with me before I was expecting it especially when I made some changes to my order over the weekend. I know a friend of mine in Israel regularly uses them, and although he sometimes has delays in customs he always gets his malts!

@Volks Volks my friend I just ordered a bottle of the world's best whisky for my brother in law from Master of Malt. They sent it to me wrapped in possibly the most protective covering I've EVER seen for a whisky. My sister store, the international beer shop, orders most of their whisky from Master of Malt. I generally go with TWE (cheaper prices) or Abbey Whisky (more expensive but rare whiskies and awesome customer service). However that all being said you will NOT be upset with Master of Malt! (I want to buy their sample packs, all of them!)

@Volks You might be interested in our .au whisky price comparison site which displays prices in local currency: www.whiskymarketplace.com.au

It aggregates prices from multiple online retailers including Master of Malt and TWE, allowing you to find the best deals quickly and easily. Most of the listings are from UK based retailers but more international results will be coming online soon. My understanding is that with the current exchange rates, even factoring in shipping costs, it can be very cost effective for Australian consumers to purchase from UK based retailers.

Yes, for a local option, The Odd Whisky Company is great, have purchased from them a few times. Graham's customer service and enthusiasm for whisky is second to none.
