I have a 2010 bottle open and enjoy it. I think it's a little pricy and will say that there are other Irish whiskies that I enjoy more that are less expensive. I think the finish drops a little too soon on this release.

It is a great whiskey… but not worth the price in my mind. For a similar experience, I'd take Jameson Gold… or for even less money, Jameson 12.
But price tag aside, Middleton Very Rare is excellent.
PS. For a real Middleton treat, get yourself a Barry Crockett Legacy!

The MVR is a great Whisky but it´s simply too expensive for what you get - @OCeallaigh, I agree with you that the Jameson Gold offers equal quality for a much better price. If you like the bushmills range try the 21 - it´s a sublime whisky in the same pricerange as the Midleton.

I appreciate the advice gentlemen. I am thinking of exchanging the bottle for something else. As soon as they slap "very rare" on a label, prices skyrocket! I bought it more as a collectors novelty. I think I will opt for a nice single malt or two.

I recently purchased a bottle of the 2011 Midleton Very Rare. I have never tried this whiskey before, and I would greatly appreciate any input on how good this whiskey really is, along with its comparability to other blended and/or malt whiskies. Overall, I have read that this whiskey is extremelly smooth and characterful. Am I correct in saying this? I do realise that each vintage year varies slightly in taste.
I prefer and drink Scotch whisky (single malt) on a regular basis. My experiences with Irish whiskey is fairly limited. I have a bottle of Redbreast 12, which I do not favour. As for Irish whiskey is concerned, I do like Bushmill's range.
I look forward hearing what those who have tried MVR think..................Cheers!
