I have been to a couple of those, in Culver City CA. This year's and last year's. Lots of fun! Very informative too.

I like the 18. The rest . . . eh . . . they're okay. The 18 is overpriced for what it is, but quite a brilliantly rewarding dram indeed. Cask strength Macallan is nice on occasion, esp after dinner.
For half the money, I recommend Glenfarclas 15 year. For twice the money and four times the experience, try Balvenie Tun 1401. You know, Glenfarclas is not big on fanfare and hype and it's all the better for it, in my book. Pass on the savings to loyal customers is what I say. I used to be in the ad industry. Believe me, promos, campaigns, and marketing strategies are quite expensive to produce.

thePeatofile i didnt realize this event has been around in past years as well. Just goes to show i need to get out more! Rigomorole, totally agree on the 18yr. I figured this tasting event must have cost Macallan a pretty penny as well. When i got back home after the event, i had a dram of glendronach 15 revival for comparison sake. It wasn't even close, 15 revival all day long for me at least. I will second the Glenfarclas. I enjoy the 21yr quite a bit . I am even thinking of buying a Glenfarclas 40yr to help celebrate my 40th bday coming up.

I am going to have to try the Glenfarclas and Glendronach15, I thought both the Glendronach 12 and Glenfarclas 12 were pretty good, now I really want to try the 15 year expressions.

Hi all! Just wanted to share a little bit about a 'Raise the Macallan' tasting event in Philly Tuesday night that I attended with a good buddy. They offered one dram of the 10yr fine oak during the reception with tasty hors d'oeuvres. There were a few displays scattered around. They even had a display cabinet with some fine and rare Macallans including a $13,500 bottle of 1949 and a $20, 000 bottle of the 'Macallan in the Lalique IV' 60year. Very cool. Then we all sat down and had a 4-dram vertical tasting of 10 yr fine oak, 12 yr sherry oak, 15 year fine oak and lastly 18 yr sherry oak. The Macallan brand ambassador spoke and presented at the tasting. Was an overall fun and informative time, not a bad way to wind down on a tueday night. Anyone else get a chance to attend this event?
