Macallan 17 sounds hard to get elsewhere.
Something to note, mates of mine who have been to China have warned me of fake stuff. Probably best to stick the big stores if you are planning on getting anything.

@sengjc yes many bars and smaller stores sell fake stuff. I accidentally got one of Jack Daniels once. I'm very careful now.

Born To Be Mild in Zhengzhou.
@casualtorture, in your shoes I would buy a bottle of Talisker 10. Unlike many on this site I do not find Talisker 10 to be at all consistent batch to batch, but I would still want one in my cabinet. What else on your list? Well, if you love the mild stuff then you have a few options there. I surmise that your Glenlivets do NOT include Nadurra 16 yo. That would be one to get if available. I doubt that it is available.

I second Victor. If that were my selection, it'd be Talisker 10 all day every day for me.

My thoughts are if you are there for a short period of time, consider exploring Bai Jiao. It's nothing like whisky but some that I've tried are quite interesting. Others I've heard about can be quite good. If you're looking to bring home, the bottles often come in 250 cc or 500 cc volumes so you can bring more of a variety. Might make for an interesting tasting session with friends.

@Nozinan I have had plenty of bai jiu at business and family gatherings. It's really more for shooting than sipping, even moutai which is the nicer stuff is usually just shot.

@Victor no Nadurra here unfortunately. Nothing cask strength either. Mostly just the core bottles of a few bigger brands.

I would go for the Talisker as well. The Glenlivet 18 is also good but sadly underpowered!

I had some in Xinjiang that was very pleasant smelling (and tasting when not taken as a shot). I think it's worth a closer look outside the usual contextual setting. But I agree, the way it's usually taken, I would not find it as "interesting".

I lived in Beijing for 10 years, and just moved back to the US. I had ordered a variety of whiskies using Tmall, and was very much satisfied with what I got. However, I stopped doing that because one of the suppliers who was/is located in Beijing had a nice store location. I went there and found that they offer samples of many of what they sell. Their website is: aiwhisky.com, and if you are in Beijing I would suggest you go there.
If you use wechat you can add Helen (she is very nice and her English is level is quite advance), and you can ask for the owner of the store whose English mame is Mike. The wechat user name is: cocomikepeng
I hope this helps.

@casualtorture I am happy to help. I checked aiwhisky's wbesite last night, and I saw that some of their stock has gone up, but that is only normal knowing the market. If they still have Glendronach 12 and 15yo in stock, I recommend those, assuming you enjoyed the ex-sherry cask matured whiskies. The 15yo is just non-existent, so 600 RMB, about 100 USD, isn't a bad price, and you cannot go wrong with 300RMB for the 12yo. HA. If you want to chat, just send me a private message. If you also use wechat we can chat there as well.

My apologies - fat fingers made me accidentally tap a "dislike" rating.

So, I'm in Zhengzhou China, and the availability here isn't the best. So here are my options for my next scotch purchase on Tmall: Glenlivet 12-18 and Guardians chapter , Talisker 10, Glenfiddich 12 and 15, all the Macallan 12's and 17, Balvenie 12 double and triple wood, Dalmore 12-18, Dalmore King Alexander and Cigar Malt, and that's about all my options. So, opinions on which ones to get and any help on finding better selection here?
