This is a 25/26? year old Glen Grant from independent bottler (IB) named Scott's Selection. Distilled in 1977 and bottled in 2003 this whisky is a single sherry cask at natural cask strength of 55.4% abv. The color on this is a dark amber and comes in a red box with a clear window.

I bought this bottle with the last of my bankroll on an unsuccessful trip home from Atlantic City (Casino town for those from outside the US). I wanted to buy something that was born (distilled) before I was.

Tasting: Very woody - oak, vanilla. Evidence of high proof. Some spiciness I'm not yet able to identify. Dry fruit & sherry. The body is bold without a little water. Spices start to develop - cinnamon, pepper. More sherry wood, a definite sherry bomb. At this point maybe a little over oaked - the flavors aren't as smooth and meshed together as I'd expect for something in this age range. The finish has a soft alcohol burn, lingering but not harsh. Adding some water allows a little more of the red fruit on the nose but makes the oak wood even more obvious on the palate. The spices stay in the background but add some interest to the finish now.

I opened this to kick off the holiday season. A nice red bottle to go along side some crème de mint liqueur for a Christmas theme. It didn't really taste like a few other Glen Grants I've tried (cake mix). Overall this was an ok bottle. This was my third IB purchase, I wouldn't buy another of the same bottle but it hasn't put me out of trying Glen Grant or other IB bottlings.
