Have read several reviews of this bottling, some pro some con. The outside of the container reads "powerful, Briny.toffee, smoky, peaty, outrageous, phenolic etc. The descriptors hit me right in my sweet spot Decided to try it as it is moderately priced here on the prairies as opposed to many Islay stalwarts. This bottle is slightly less than $55. plus tax here as opposed to for eg Ardbeg 10 @ $95. plus tax. Nose: Sea Weed, Iodine, Peat smoke, Lime and Fish Breath (in a good way) Taste: All of the above in addition to a bit of a medicinal new bandage flavour. On the palate this dram is a bit hot and youthful which is to be expected. Finish: moderately long with a campfire smoke and Seaweed brine aftertaste although the smoke diminishes a fair bit faster than does Caol Ila 12. All in all I really enjoyed the first 2 drams and look forward to trying this Smokehead again in a month if I can wait that long! Not knowing what distillery produces the base malt of this whisky, it is my guess that the nearest comparison I have is Caol Ila. Try it you won't be disappointed.
