Just picked up a 2012 bottling of Lagavulin 12 year. Having the first little dram out of the bottle! I've had once before at a whisky bar, but never since - haven't seen it around in a couple years so jumped at it as soon as i saw some new local availability.

@teebone673 The Balvenie is a really nice dram!
Don't mean to get on my "soapbox", but just today I picked up a few bottles (Arran 10 yr, and Bruichladdich Rocks) from a store that's always had the 15 yr, and 14 yr Caribbean Cask at really good prices ($55 for the 15 yr, and $50 for the 14 yr).
When I searched the store to pick up a few more - nothing...Talked to the store owner; he tells me that they'll be getting the 15 yr "sometime soon", but will not get the 14 yr...Also informs me that the 15 yr will go for approx $85.
I admire the Balvenie range, and what they do, but c'mon...Maybe it's time to mothball that Morgan that the "Ambassadors" wheel around in...Their getting too big for their own good, and will price themselves outta the range of customers such as myself.

Jefferson 10 Year Old Straight Rye. "100% Rye", tame, pleasant, easy drinking. Not packing much flavor punch. I'll give it a rating of 72. Pleasant while it's here but forgettable.

Taketsuru 12. And I will be pouring a dram of Miyagikyou 10 very soon!

A few short hours ago in the wee hours of the morning, having some drams, and watching The Bridge...God what a great show! Springbank 12 Claret Finish (thanks, nic!), followed some whisky I didn't label and still can't identify (a little scary), Old Overholt to commemorate @CanadianNinja's new bottle, and Thomas H Handy Rye, winding down an old bottle of the 2010 release.

I have recently opened a Glenfarclas 105 which has been most interesting. 60% ABV and a lovely potent flavor of malt and orange. Long lovely finish that seems to last for minutes on end.

@Victor, next time you watch the bridge you should pour yourself a glass of DelMaguey Chichicapa which I am enjoying right now - and I'm playing with the idea to add a decent amount of this Mezcal to a 7 yo Laphroaig single cask which was finished in a red sweetwine cask.

@maltster, that would be an excellent occasion to open up that bottle of Chichicapa which I have stored away...for the next episode of The Bridge, or maybe during the season finale.
Do you get The Bridge over there in Vienna? TV or online?

@Victor, I just can get it online and I love it; the best since the Sopranos and House of Cards. Btw that Chichicapa-Laphroaig combo really sings...

@FMichael I agree, man. I love the Balvenie range, but the prices have skyrocketed in my area as well. The 15 SB is now $89.99, when I first bought a bottle it was $67.99. All other Balvenies have gone up as well. Disappointing to say the least.

A vatting of Corryvreckan, HP18, and Nadurra16 to mark the midpoint of my August vacation, in a ratio of 1/2/3. I'd buy it!

My uncle and I opened a Glenkinchie 12 YO. Not bad for a branded Whisky. Actually, quite an awesome nose. But at 43% (so diluted flavour), and probable colouring and chill-filtration, imagine how good it might have been... A little thin on the palate.

Cracked open a new bottle of Laphroaig 10 Cask Strength last night. A Batch #004, a very different beast than my previous #003. Less peat, more salt. The wood remains strong in the finish, although it's smoother and takes longer to arrive. Some nice spearmint emerges very late in the finish. There's a slight detergent note in the mix now. Still a very good whisky, save for the detergent and a little too much salt. Score: 89. (Batch #003: 91)

Stranahan's Colorado Malt Whiskey, batch 106. This batch is heavily toffeed, much more so than I would prefer, and quite different than the Stranahan's batch 58 sample I have previously had.
Next on to some Ardbeg Galileo...a bit shy and modest as Ardbegs go, but I really do not understand why there should be such brouhaha about this one. I am glad that I own two bottles of it, and am nearly finished the first. I like it in a big way.
Finally, for now, some old-style hyper-flavoured funk: Old Potrero 18th Century Style (Rye) Whiskey, batch K, liquid-fire-on-the-tongue...the mood for this one is not all the time, but when it comes, nothing else on earth will do.

Vatting of Superstition and Booker's - great nose, complex flavours and a long finish.

On the couch for a nice afternoon of football and Whisky. The Dutch competition is in it's second round and we already have a mini super Sunday.
First Whisky of today: Aultmore 20y PX bottled by David Stirk for his Exclusive Casks range.
