@paddockjudge I'll have to Mac CS and rye. I would have never thought to try that combo.

Teeling Irish Whiskey 'Rum Finish' @ 46% abv.: This has opened with a magnificent liquorice aroma - everything else is pretty good too!...And it's affordable at Au.$49.95. This is our forth bottle of this delicious drop and all have been top-notch! 'Have a dram to hand, even as I type...
Slainte!

@maltygirl: Likewise with a small splash of a'Bunadh in a rather good Aberlour 10yo. 40% abv. I was looking for what a std 10yo. might taste like at around 46%. All three Whiskies were great and I don't think I achieved anything - The a'Bunadh was Batch #37 @ 59.6, very good without being electrifying, the blend more interesting than the 10yo. without being necessarily better. Best whisky was probably the std. 10yo. with no water added (?).
Cheers.

@bwmccoy that's the only Octomore I have tried. I really liked it and have a sealed bottle for "tomorrow", if that day ever comes.

YES! YES! YES! 3-0!! Drinking some Parker's Heritage Golden Anniversary celebrating Canada's absolute dominance among hockey nations! Right on boys!

Back to my Crown Royal LE; It's the only homegrown whisky I've got at the moment, so it'll have to do. Good game, Sweden!

@Nozinan - I'm enjoying the Octomore 4.1 as well, but it isn't my favorite. I been fortunate to own the 1.1, 2.1 and the 2.2 Orpheus (finished in Bordeaux wine casks). It will be hard to top Orpheus. That one was special. Wish I had another bottle of it for "tomorrow". :-)
Congrats Canada on your Hockey dominance in Sochi. I don't have any Canadian whisky in my cabinet, so I will have to raise a glass of American Rye in your honor later tonight.

On Saturday night I went to the Kingston Whisky Festival with my younger brother. Had a pretty good time and sampled a number of things, including: Wiser's Red Letter (2013), Bain's Cape Mountain Single Grain (100% Rye from South Africa), Tobermory 10yr, Highland Park 10yr, and the AnCnoc Peter Arkle Limited Edition.

Talisker 10 in the new packaging. Always great to get back to and if there is a change in quality, the direction is up. It could be the evolution of taste, but I noticed a slightlybigger sherry influence compared to the older version which made it even tastier for me. Does anyone share this experience?

back to my whisky tastings i had a slightly dissapointing GlenDronach session tonight. We sampled the 12 and the 15, which ive already tried, thoroughly and review before. After those we dived into the 18 and 31 year old grandeur which were both sub par, following these there was some St. magdelene lying around which was excellent! not a bad night

So I'm drinking some Blanton's Gold tonight. I've had this bottle for a few months now and it has certainly opened up and gotten far better than it was when I first cracked it open. When I first opened this one up I was NOT a fan. It just wasn't for me.
Now that it has had a few months of air it has really developed into a whisky that I can enjoy! The nose is very nice, strong fruit, peaches and orange peel. The palate is far, far better than it was at first. When I opened it there was an overpowering soda cream flavour that really put me off. Thankfully it has dissipated.

Currently sampling Sheep Dip - quite ordinary in my opinion. Review to follow.

After using neighbor's snow blower I'm having a nice dram of Dalmore 18yr old, not overly complex but pleasant just the same. :)

Enjoying some Aberlour 12 and Glenfarclas 12. Having a hard time finding much difference in the two but I think for my taste the Aberlour 12 has just a slight edge.

After 2 weeks without Whisky as an incentive to lose some weight, I broke a rib and was on medication that does not go well with alcohol. The pain is now staring to subside, enough so that my last anti-inflammatory was 36 hours ago.
Today we had guests over and I poured one of them a glass of Bowmore Laimrig. I also had a ~15 cc measure of Spingbank 12 yo CS.
Now no dramming till I get below 180.

Had a couple of drams of the quite delicious Naked Grouse - a lovely first fill sherried blend using Macallan and Highland Park as the main malts. Put up a review as well. Check it out.

Glenfarclas 105. Watching the last 3 episodes of Breaking Bad on Netflix.

@wtrstrnghlt I found Breaking Bad went really well with Thomas H. Handy Straight Rye.

@talexander I'm not a Rye guy (yet). Still exploring Scotland. But I'm thinking more and more about taking an American side trip.
Enjoyed Breaking Bad all along. Nice final episodes also. A bad ending to a great series is like a bad finish after great nose and palate. No matter how good the Whisky is overall, it leaves 'a bad aftertaste'

@wtrstrnghlt Agreed! For example, tonight I watched the motion picture After Earth, starring Will Smith and his shithead son, and to do so require Glenfiddichs 12, 18 and 125th Anniversary Edition, with a little Ballantine's Finest and Johnny Walker Black somewheres along the way to get me through the agony.
