@CanadianNinja - just got home, watching the Blue Jay / Yankee game. Looks like Tanaka isn't un-hittable, but he's doing enough to keep his team in the game. I'm not a Yankee fan, so Go Jays! :-)
@yaklord - G10.1 was the first Single Grain Whisky that I ever tasted. It blew me away. I've been looking for a bottle ever since, but the American chapter wasn't allocated any bottles. I've since purchased a couple of other Society grains, which I've really enjoyed, but they don't compare to the Thanksgiving Dram.

Bowmore 8yr - Nearly empty bottle - will finish it this weekend as it fits with the unsettled weather around here right now.

@hunggar, that's correct, Singleton of Glen Ord. I think we're on the same page my friend, it's not such a bad dram at all!
Personally, I think a lot of people post reviews without revisiting a bottle over time and seeing how it develops with air. As you know, reviewing isn't my thing, it's just not something for which I have the talent or interest. Therefore I greatly appreciate each and every review that is posted on Connosr. But I put a lot more stock in reviewers like yourself who tend to judge a whisky over a period of time, not just upon first opening the bottle.
The Singleton 12 yo is a very drinkable, simple dram. A whisky you can enjoy without thinking about it too much. And for the price, there are far worse buys out there!

@bwmccoy, I've been a Yanks fan since I was a kid. My favourite player was Don Mattingly, it's because of the Hit Man that I became a lifelong NY fan. Having said that, being from Toronto my number two team is the Jays of course. It will be interesting to see how they both do this season… : )

Got back from a birthday dinner with my wife and son a short while ago. I'm now continuing the celebration with a glass of Bookers... Happy Birthday to me! ; )

@CanadianNinja, a very Happy Birthday to you! Nota Bene that there's a new 25th Anniversary edition of Booker's out now too. I haven't tried it yet, but a buddy will give me 120 ml from his bottle soon. It's about twice the usual Booker's price around here--probably not good value for money...but probably very good bourbon. No company likes to make a big deal special edition release out of shabby whisk(e)y.

@Victor
Do you know of any online shops that will ship this special edition to Florida?

Thanks very much @Victor! I have now moved on to some Elijah Craig 18 and it is gooood… ; )

@CanadianNinja - Happy Birthday! I'm going to dinner tonight at a place that has 250 + whiskies. I will raise one my drams in your honor.

@Nozinan, I would have to do the same research you would for online shipment policies of the various vendors. I don't have that information on the tip of my tongue because receiving shipments of spirits into Maryland is illegal. I can say for certain that our jurisdiction of Montgomery County, Md. will not ship spirits outbound.

@Victor
Well, I found a florida online retailer but at $100 a bottle it's more than twice what I paid for the regular Booker's. I think I'd need to hear that it's twice as good before subjecting my friend to more bottles to hold for me....

@Nozinan, as I said, the Booker's 25th Anniversary release is "probably not good value for money". I'd have to taste it to see whether I would want to pay what it costs.

Finally had a chance to sit down at home with a dram after a long and tiring week. I noticed Ralfy posted a review of Springbank CS 12 year old on Wednesday, and tonight I poured myself a dram of the same single malt (different batch).
I probably scored 10% in terms of smelling and tasting the things he described, but I can agree with him that this is a very good Whisky!

Had the pleasure of hosting a Whisky tasting evening for 3 friends of mine. They were all new to Whisky, except for one who drinks an Irish whiskey from time to time.
I think it was a successful introduction into Whisky for them. Showed a short YouTube about the production and aging. And they had a lot of good questions about a lot of aspects and differences.
What was most funny was that the one person who is a smoker didn't like any of the peated Whisky. But the non-smokers enjoyed them a lot.
So, here is what we tasted:
Favorites of the evening were Longmorn, Glenfiddich, HP, Lagavulin and Talisker. The Ardbeg and Ballechin were a bit to much I think. We threw in the Nikka in the end, just to try something from japan.
Hope I converted some to our religion :)

@wtrstrnghlt - Sounds like a fun night.
My wife and I went out with her sister and brother-in-law to celebrate his birthday. He had Ardbeg Corryvreckan and Talisker Distillers Edition.
I had Tyrconnel 10 year Madeira finish, Glenmorangie Astar and Bunnahabhain 18

Teeling Irish whiskey small batch finish in rum casks. This is my new favorite Irish whiskey. Interesting experience and quite enjoyable.

@bwmccoy It was fun indeed!
My guests were amazed at how different one Whisky was from another. And I had a great time as a host sharing all that I learned from Connosr, blogs and vlogs.

Limiting my whisky and wine to weekends now so enjoying a dram of Port Charlotte the peat project. I can honestly say that I haven't had a Bruichladdich I didn't enjoy. Have a great Sunday!

Trying out my vatting of 3 parts A'Bunadh batch 36 and 1 part Laphroaig Quarter cask that has been marrying for at least a week now. On first impression, the nose is a sherry / peat blast. The palate has what's good about A'Bunadh with a hit of smoke from the QC. There's a milk chocolate flavour, not as prominent in the single malts, that runs between the two malts in this blend.
It's still opening up in the glass with a few drops of water, but my first impressions are that I like the QC on its own a little better, and I like this more than the batch 36 on its own.
Now I need to figure out what to do with the rest of my batch 36. Hmm, I have some heels of Talisker 10 sitting around...

Just had a dram of Bowmore Devil's Cask 56.9 % ABV NCF and matured for 10 years in first fill sherry casks. Not sure about this one. Gives me a bit of heartburn! I decanted the last quarter bottle and will try it again a year from now. Followed this with a dram of HP10. This is a very nice sipper and I actually think I like it better than the 12 year old. Blasphemy I know!

Westland First Peated Single Malt Whiskey. Made in Seattle! It's good. The best American peated single malt I 've ever had.

Six weeks--six weeks, mind you!--away from whisky following knee surgery and a regimen of meds. Just had my first few "serious" drams tonight since late February. Everything tastes too strong, but so good nonetheless.
Glenfarclas 12, Aberlour A'bunadh (batch #45), and Ardbeg Uigeadail for tonight. Feels like my entire circulatory system has been rebooted.

welcome back @WhiskyBee. Hope you're all healed up.
How was the A'Bunadh batch 45? I'm planning on opening it this month after I turn 45.

Celebrating the discovery of a Calgary online retailer that still has Springbank Claret wood! Last dram of my first bottle of Claret wood. 3 years was a little too long...

@WhiskyBee - Welcome back !! The Derby is four weeks away and some good Kentucky juice is flowing in Ontario...a generous pour of Rock Hill Farms welcomes you back.

@Nozinan - Batch 45 is very good, but it doesn't quite match the other batches I've tried. Seems a little less complex overall than, say, 32 or 44 (my slight favorites so far). Keep in mind that I haven't had ANY batch for a couple of months, so I'm going mostly by the memory of my first impressions.
Thanks, @paddockjudge! What, no mint julep? ;)
