We are looking at a few rather special Holey Dollar Rums and my vote goes to their Op. version Pot Still 57.2% Alc. A superb Rum which I have christened 'The Malt Whisky Enthusiasts' Rum': Rich, smooth, delicious with Bar-B-Que and bushfire smoke, oodles of molasses and treacle, and a 'knock your socks off' resounding finish!

I wish some of the Malts in my cabinet reached the heights that this Rum does! This is a classy 'drop'!

Cheers.

Attended a party, the hostess had several duty free bottles from her many trips back and forth between Scotland and Norway. Tasted Talisker Dark Storm, Isle of Jura Turas-Mara and Glenlivet Master Distiller's Reserve.

None of the bottles had a particular "wow factor" about them, but I really enjoyed the Glenlivet tonight. I'll make a mental note of having another taste of the Jura as well.

Russell's Reserve: I don't have a lot of experience or knowledge of Whiskey but it seems that with guidance from Eddie I'll get there - That's how the reserve grabs me; masterfully made and an education in its' self and, I suspect that, this is his plan i.e. "This is Whiskey".

Cheers!

@A'bunadhman, Eddie is steering you in the right direction. Wild Turkey does a great job with Russell's Reserve. I like your taste in scotch, I think you have plenty of experience with whiskey.

Came home from. 2 hour meeting at the kids' school where the board was trying to explain why it was ok to tar the roof while the kids were in the school and why it's ok that within a 3 year project they only managed to tell parents 2 weeks before they want to start.

So, settling in to relax, I cracked my first bottle of Forty Creek Evolution, and tried it for the first time in a Glencairn...

Is all Canadian whisky this good?

Tomatin 12y. This is the first time I have ever had Tomatin. Brand new just open bottle, on my second dram. I like what I'm tasting, malt, peat, spice, light sherry and 43 percent ABV. I taste spearmint. This has a lot going on. I didn't pay very much for this whiskey. It tastes older and more complex than its price tag. I don't do many reviews but I will for this one.

Began the evening with a taste of JW Swing, which was a nice warmup to a couple of drams of A’bundha, batches 34 and 40.

@Wodha, if you want to consider a move to Madison, WI, you can sling code at a large healthcare IT company.

Plus, you can join the Prancing Pony Whisky Society, the very (VERY) loose whisky club that meets in my basement every 3-16 months. Get here by mid-November for membership in time for my upcoming "Peatgasm 2014" tasting. :)

At any rate, good luck with the cheapies.

Russell's Reserve: It opened well, tasted excellent and has improved all the time it has been open - If ever there was a classic example of a Whiskey blossoming in large glass (in this case, the beautiful W/T bottle was the decanter with no transfer required), then, this is it; the gorgeous funky, though fleeting notes, are now full blown in an funky, deep oppulence that is both incredibly delicious and staggeringly engaging! This is Whiskey of the highest order.

Thiis is the newer packaging with raised signature, motif and gold embossing...Lovely!
