Holey Dollar Rum 'Cask Strength' 75.9% Alc/Vol. This is the finest of many fine Rums dating back to 1959, when I fiirst tasted Distillery Only Rums and includes such masterpieces as Director's Special, Inner Circle, Condon's #7 'Full Strength' and several Rums from Beenleigh Distillery for the Royal Navy - There is an edition of Holey Dollar, an OP. at 57.2% and it is magnificent with Barbecue smoke and swirls of Golden Syrup, the Cask at 75.9% is simply better; it's a good 'swimmer too, which is just as well! 2 parts Rum to 1 part diistilled water dives 50.6% and at that strength it's a silken delight!

10 cc of my last few drops of Amut CS (unpeated). I think I have enough for one more 1/2 dram. It will be sad to see this excellent one go...all I will have now is the 2007 special edition. It is great but I would love to try other batches like the one I am enjoying now.

Angel's Envy bourbon, port wine cask finish. Again another bourbon bought a year ago on a trip to PA. Bourbon selection in Ontario getting a bit better but still not many quality choices. Savoring every drop.

Admittedly not a bourbon connosr, but vividly recall the Angel's Envy. Between that and the Elmer T Lee for best bourbon I have tried, Savor every drop indeed

Tonight I'm sharing a dram of glenlivet 16 Nàdurra with my brother in law. I have to agree with Ralfy, it develops very nicely when being subjected to some air-oxidization

A friend was generous enough to bring a Glen Breton 10 year old over the weekend - unfortunately we both agreed that it was on the light side (no water-cutting required) and was lacking in sharp flavor.

Tonight another friend dropped in and we appreciated the sweetness that was resident in the Evan Williams 10 year old Single Barrel (#305). Quite the nice finish and would recommend to anyone who appreciates the Elmer T Lee flavor profile (which is better but they are in the same neighbourhood). It paired very well w the El Dorado 25 (which is getting dangerously low).

Over the past week:

Ledaig 10 (not a fan. seems to not know what it wants to accomplish)

Benromach 10 (VERY well made yet not really my cup of tea. Too soft)

Bunnahabhain 12 (I really dig this one. You can tell it's from Islay, or at least coastal, yet without that huge smoke hit. The peat is very subtle and takes on a different dimension - almost vegetal or herbal - due to it only being from the water running through peat bogs. Beautiful, rich, oily body with loads of sherry in the middle and fantastic nutty vanilla finish..)

Rittenhouse Rye (an always welcomed classic)

Smith and Cross Traditional Jamaican Rum.

I tried this last night and was wowed by the nose. @victor told me it was available at the LCBO so I picked a bottle up on the way home from the "Epic tasting". I wanted to get 2 but I had to be sure It was really the same (The one I tried was "naval strength or proof" and this bottle didn't have that listed) and had that awesome nutmeg nose.

Well, it does, so I'll likely have to pick up a spare before they sell out.

Ardbeg 10yo. Freshly opened and quite superb! It smells and tastes brilliant and it's my staple Whisky, in fact, I will try to have some bottles in store, always. They haven't jacked the price up (yet).

Kavalan Solist Ex-Bourbon Cask.

Rather muted bouquet as is typical for bourbon cask finished malts but the palate is impressively multidimensional, a fruit and malt duet with oak and vanilla.

A very nice and clean malt whisky with the malt and fruit taking centre stage, and finally the malt, at the finish - pure and resonating.

Hardly any heat at all with a mild oily mouthfeel and a little spicy prickle at the back of the palate.

The dark horse of the Solist series that lives in the shadow of the more renowned Sherry Cask and Vinho Barrique variants but for those that back this underdog, you may well be pleasantly surprised with the payback.
