@Nozinan, Dukes of Hazzard was set in Georgia, but some believe that it was to avoid civil action. What a great name, Hazzard, with two zees. I'm of the school that supports the Kentucky theory - proof; Steve Earle's baby momma is an Hazardonian....'nuff said.

@paddockjudge
Have to admit I really didn't watch the show, but a friend of mine in elementary school did. He liked the car and the horn. Of course at the time I had no idea who General Lee was or what the Confederate Flag stood for. Maybe if I had been in my early teens I would have found it more appealing...
I do believe that Moonshine did figure in at least one episode (the one I saw...) - and Whislepig's creators must have liked the show as well (Boss Hogg).
Years later, as a physician, I hope he was wearing padding in his costume.

@paddockjudge
I looked it up. He actually did have to wear a padded suit!
And apparently many of the actors in that show were highly trained and had distinguished careers prior to that show. Go figure...

Finished off a sample of Glenfarclas 105, inspired as I was by this article...
Cheers.

@A'bunadhman what a fabulous selection of Glenfarclas's .One day I'd love to be at a tasting like that but doubt I ever will. I do have a Glenfarclas 15 at 58.6% abv though. It's now been open about 3 months and is coming into it's own big-time. Wonderful stuff and a definite improvement on the normal 15 . Cask strength Glenfarclas is superb and its a shame that the family cask series is so expensive.By the way Abunadh 51 has just come out over here .

putting my 6 YO son to bed we somehow started talking about evolution. So tonight as I finish my work and try to put the shattered pieces of my smartphone together (well, I had to reboot and restore the data), It's FC Evolution. I can still smell the cab/franc icewine on the nose.

@Nozinan, I too enjoyed this as a night cap only a few days ago...after our epic Department of Whisky Session. Time has been kind to this FC Limited Release. I have scored this anywhere from 86 to 91. Most recently it would be closer to 91 than 86.

Sorry @paddockjudge and @nozinan but I just. Can't. Stand. This. Whisky.

The Ken Ham of Connosr.
Tonight I drank through the peaty bottles on the table at my whisky club's monthly shindig: Talisker Storm, Bowmore 12, and Caol Ila 12. The Caol Ila was clearly the best, which was not a surprise. What was a surprise was how good the Caol Ila really was. Maybe it's just the comparison effect, but it was pretty rockin' after those other two. The last time I had it, its competition was some the CS Islay stuff that made it seem weak, bland, and watery. At the time, I believe I wrote a review in my journal tag-lined "slightly peaty water." But it was great tonight!

Kinmen Kaoliang Liquor, 58% ABV, unaged spirit, distilled once from sorghum. This was a present from my Taiwanese neighbor. Kinmen is a little island very close to the coast of mainland China. Man, this has a nose!!! Intense deep-pitched grassiness, with black pepper and an intense "farmy" quality. This one is extremely fiery in the mouth, but in a wonderful energizing sort of way. Enormous pepper and black licorice. I love this stuff!
I think that you could also make a good whisky out of this by aging it in "second fill" bourbon barrels. But, as unaged spirit goes, this is already one of my new favourites. This sorghum grain has a lot of character. And the flavour is there in spades at 58% ABV.

@Victor That one would be great to bring up north in a small sample bottle...

@Nozinan, yes, it would, if I ever get back to Canada, or, say, to Pittsburgh.

@Victor: What wonderful contributions you make, time after time! It seems that nothing gets past you - Thank you, your input is staggering and the content always enormously interesting: I'm toasting you with a G&M's Benromach Peated 46%; the PPM. suggests a peatier 'drop' than this actually tastes but the balance is just right (for me) and overall a fine Whisky and not much left in this bottle, either!

@A'bunadhman, thank you very much. I return your toast with Del Maguey Chichicapa Mezcal, 46% ABV. Also smokey.

@FMichael I'm also enjoying a pour of Knob Creek Small Batch Single Barrel 9 year old. Agree, at 120 proof it is 'almost' Booker's (but not quite there).

Not much at the LCBO at 60% or higher. I have a bottle of this I occasionally go to.
Tonight though, I've been wanting to try out something with my Amrut Peated CS. A few months ago I bought a new desktop computer. It is a small one that is about 7x 7 inches ans about 2 inches high. It fits on my desk to easily attach to my 2 monitors and for convenience I have the side with the power button (and USB and card ports) facing in from the left. The air that cools the device exits in this direction at all. By placing the covered glencairn in the path of the air I can recreate the warming technique that Ashok demonstrated with a stemmed glass.
The result is the same explosion of smell and taste that I experienced at SOT a year ago. I'm getting such richness and complexity! The fruits and peat blend together flawlessly. This (Batch 12) is a wonderful single malt that is a little pricy here ($106 at LCBO) but worth every penny. And still available.

@Victor, I got a laugh out of that. Yes kaoliang certainly has a lot of character. I'm glad you like it. Decidedly not for me, unfortunately.

@hunggar, I love the specific bottle of that specific Kinmen 58% Kaoliang which I own. I wouldn't be able to say that I like Kaoliang in general. I understand that there is a great deal of variation among kaoliangs, including some being sold as low as 33% abv. This particular bottle really zings. And earthy? Extremely earthy.
@paddockjudge, I've only stayed the night in Pittsburgh once in my life. Aspirationally, Pittsburgh represents to me the center of gravity of the old US pre-Prohibition rye whiskey industry. I would like to see ten new Pennsylvania rye whiskey pot-distillers, using some of the old pre-Prohibition distillation techniques. My heart is more strongly magnetized to Pennsylvania and Maryland Rye than it is to Kentucky bourbon.

Wild Turkey 101.
Didn't realize how nice this bourbon is...Sorta like Elijah Craig 12 yr, and Buffalo Trace on steroids.

Friday night dinner and the whole family came over. My brother, my uncle and I all had Laphroaig QC. My mother even took a few sips...I'll bring her over to the dark side yet!

A gin & tonic (made with Ungava Canadian gin). Sorry, I know this is supposed to be about whisky, just thought like telling the world is all.
