Weird typo.. It's supposed to say braeval 24 years old distilled in 1989. Also we had longrow red port cask. Quite an evening!

@Victor, It is no secret that Macallan Cask Strength is my favourite single malt. Six or eight bottles is hardly enough. I went through that many the year it was discontinued.
The Connosr Network allowed me to harvest a box full of these gems. @Nozinan and his brother-in-law were responsible for six of the bottles that made there way to my cabinet. From that cache I have three remaining, not nearly enough.

@paddockjudge, I do wish I had 8 bottles of Macallan Cask Strength left. 10 would not be too many.
Right now, I am in the perfect mood for some Old Potrero 18th Century Style Rye, Batch N. It is so delicious and so intense.

@Benancio I tasted a Glendronach Single cask that seemed more like Mac CS than the Amrut. The latter I found a brighter dram. What makes the Mac CS special is its unique darker fruit notes, and the GD had a bit of that. It was also delicately spectacular in its own right...

@Nozinan, I've got one word for you... Wow!
What a spectacular whisky, Amrut peated CS. A tremendous explosion of flavor and spice. Also I made sure we tried the warming it with our palms and it really made everything pop. Spices and whisky goodness just blasting out of the glass!
The only knock on it was that some found it a bit too strong in the alcohol departement. Not too spirity but just overpowering. I thought it was divine and the best whisky of the night! Make way on the bandwagon..

I've just done a H2H with 2 Port Charlotte's , one was the PC Scottish Barley and the other one was a PC12 at 56% from Whiskybroker. They are both fine drams but the independent Port Charlotte easily came out on top, I thought it was a good five or six points better than the OB taking it into the early 90's. These Port Charlotte's with a bit of age to them are really quite special and I'm glad I've put a few away.

@Alexsweden
I'd better stock up before it all gets bought up after your description...

Just got over a not so fun cold...So allow me an indulgence. HP18, CB Lost Blend, CB Flaming Heart 2015, Ardbeg Beist 2008, Octomore 5.1. Finishing off with an unholy mix of the 5.1 remnants and some...Lost Blend...Maybe? Yes. Let's review that one. Smell: Out of a big ass brandy snifter (Thanks Sushi Taro) Smell: very mild mannered malt. Reminds me of an old Kilkerran WIP that I have open, or the Laddie 10 - There's a real sweetheart of a malt underneath. Taste: Toffee, Sweet Baby Ray's, caramel, hot salty caramel. Some really intense numbing going on here. Briny... Musty...Cthhuluy? Medicinal Vick's vapor rub and iodine rushes in... All better? Yeah. 10 - 12 ounces is the beast.

@Alexsweden my guess is that your bottle of Glenfarclas 15 hasn't been open for too long. Once it's been open for 3 or 4 months you won't be saying that it's quite a nice dram, you'll be saying it's a fantastic dram. It's difficult to think of a better whisky than Glenfarclas 15 at it's price point!

@maltmate302, it has been open for about three weeks and now I'm very much looking forward to trying it as time goes by and see the development. Thanks for the heads-up!

Looking forward to the Bruins/Flyers game tonight...Having a hearty dram of Knob Creek Small Batch 120 proof while preparing some dinner...I'm hoping the game tonight will match the bourbon I'm enjoying - intense!

Wiser's Legacy, L13 304 Absolutely stunning! Opened 27 Dec 2015. This is a brilliantly crafted whisky with near perfect balance. Sweet and creamy corn whisky is the platform upon which the spicy rye is delivered. A faint nuttiness accents the interchange between creamy sweetness and spicy rye flares. Virgin oak adds vanilla and toffee to the endless cycle of weighty texture and vibrant spice. After twelve arduous shifts, a mile underground, I'm going to unwind with this sparkling gem.

Ok, I get that you've earned it but really, is it that great? I know a guy who can blend Legacy in front of me and it's better than the stuff in the bottle!

@Nozinan Yes, Legacy is incredibly delicious! I know a guy who can get you some of that other stuff.

I'm currently having a dram of Del Maguey Chichicapa and what a truly special spirit this is. I opened the bottle a few weeks ago and the first dram I had was nice enough, it just tasted very young ( which it is , completely unaged) and not even as smoky as I was expecting. A few weeks later and it is quite sensational. The smokiness has increased and the level of complexity is stunning.. This mezcal can give any single malt whisky a run for it's money and can totally see why its so well regarded by some people on Connosr!

Sipping on a Miller Lite after getting the house cleaned up for company tonight. I imagine later today I will get into the malts, but yet undecided as to what we will be sipping on!

Starting to get waterlogged here so I broke into my nearly depleted Michter's Toasted Barrel tonight.... Last night I enjoyed some 33yr Glenlivet that's also soon to be no more for me.

Last night opened with a tequila, El Jimador repo, and ended with a blend of Bunnahabhain 12 with a tablespoon of Laphroaig 10 added in. I have to say the Bunna 12 is fine on its own. Wanted to try my own blend.

Tonight I'm having a splash of bunnahabhain. Sweden-exclusive bottling ''moine'', nice and approachable Monday night dram

During 6 nights' holiday in Orlando, Florida, we partook of spirits from a combination of sources.
Whisky ordinaire, table whisky, odds and ends from home for the hotel quarters: Glenfarclas 15, Macallan Cask Strength 59.3% abv, 1st batch Stagg Jr. 67.2% abv, Old Potrero 18th Century Style Rye Spirit, Batch N, Auchentoshan Valinch 2012, Redbreast 12, and El Jimador Reposado Tequila.
Quick thinking by @Dramlette got us tickets to the whisky tasting put on by The Whisky Cabinet, @maltwhiskycabinet.com, which allowed us to meet the very lovable hosts Art MacIntosh (aka Dentin MacStill) and Michelle Morneault (aka Fifi Laphroaig). This tasting was part of the 2016 Central Florida Scottish Highland Games, put on by the Scottish-American Society of Central Florida. 200+ of us tasted five malts:
Ladyburn 37 yo, 1975, 48.5% ABV
Tomatin 12, PX Finish
Tobermory 15, Oloroso Sherry, LE
Ledaig 18, Oloroso Sherry, LE
Kilchoman 3 yo, Port Cask, 55% ABV
Our favourite of these was the Kilchoman, which had enormous power combined with excellent integration of the Port Wine. The HIghland Games went on for 2 more days, but because we were staying an hour away, we did not watch or participate in the other events.
These Whisky Cabinet foks are delightful and we hope to see more of them one day.
I also sat down to a nice tasting in which I shared some whiskeys and got a chance to taste some interesting Mexican agave spirits, including a Sotol, a Bacanora, and a Raicilla.

While doing a bit of work, then catching up on Mad Men, The Americans and Mr. Robot: Aberlour a'bunadh 39, Aberlour a'bunadh 49, Chivas Regal 12 (bottled in the '80s), That Boutique-y Whisky Company BenRiach Batch 2, Johnny Walker Black and SMWS 24.111 (which has improved with time).

@JayRain opened the crown royal northern harvest at poker last night. General consensus was enjoyable but we anticipated more due to all the buzz. What was a tad disappointing was the Camus elegance - a tougher finish and more leathery taste than a napolean 21 or remy xo

Thomas H. Handy Sazerac Rye, 2010, 63.45% ABV (oddly, same as 2015). We're catching the tail end of 60 cm of snow in a rare DC area blizzard right now. Things will be quiet here for 2 or 3 days.
