I'm watching a show called "narcos" on Netflix and decided I needed something good. Rewarded myself with a helping of glengoyne 21.

@Alexsweden love Narcos, season 2 is really good as well. Good choice of whisky too.

Last night, in celebration of my best friends birthday, we opened my bottle of Elijah Craig Barrel Proof. 69.7% abv but you would never know it. This stuff is MAGICAL! Easily one of the best bourbons I have ever had.

Hard to find a bottle like that north of the border. Well done!

@mscottydunc, and it is very easy to go through a bottle of Elijah Craig Barrel Proof. The high alcohol content is just not an inhibitor to drinking it and wanting more,...and more..., is it?

@victor Not at all, it's dangerous how little I noticed the high ABV. Just an epic ride on flavour town without anything holding me back. I am sure I will revisit the bottle soon. I should get on posting some reviews too.

@mscottydunc Thanks for posting the ABV. You have batch #11 of ECBP. I personally consider it one of the best - if not the best - batch released (tough call next to batch #1). I agree that it is amazing how easily a whisky at almost 140 Proof can go down so easily. Simply one of the best bang for you buck whiskies on the market . . . if you can get you hands on one (sorry @Nozinan).

Had some tasty Glen Garioch tonight... 22yr Alexander Murray bottling. Good stuff.

I was tempted to dive into my ECBP but I'm not sure when I'll be able to replace that... and it seemed a Scotch was more appropriate than a bourbon, tonight being Burns night.

This evening it's the Laphroaig PX cask, combining my two favourite characteristics of whisky in sherry and peat. Grabbed a litre bottle when heading home from Prague last year, and was well worth the purchase.

@Wodha Is it common? I saw some reference that it is from distillate of the Ben Nevis distillery. What's the ABV? Any more info on it that you can share?

@Nozinan The bottle I have is 70cl, bottled at cask strength & natural colour, 58%vol. Think and tasty. Highly recommended!

Tonight I had some Wray & Nephew 63% ABV Jamaican White Rum. I thought it was pretty bad, not something I would intentionally drink again.

@Victor interesting because I am drinking the same thing! Only mine is in a cocktail. This rum is far better when mixed. Currently it is in a Planter's Punch, and my wife is loving it!

Jura 16. Opening up nicely. Sherried nose, with clove and nutmeg, and a fruity apple undertone. Taste is sweet, medium bodied for 40 abv, oaky bitterness which is inoffensive, dried fruits, and a medium long bittersweet finish. Time in the bottle is doing this whisky good.

And so, after 31 days and several hours, "Dry January" is officially OVER! I had to choose something that would be a special dram while fitting the profile for something that will go with a house full of cooking smells from a roast beef to chicken tagging and vegetable stew.

With my uncle over, we considered what was open, and settled on.......

BLADNOCH 10 YO sherry cask matured possibly slightly peated 55%

I had a great time at the whisky expo last night!

I had the chance to meet Ashok Chokalingam of Amrut and thank him personally for the great spirits they produce. I also tried Amrut peated port pipe, Armrut Rye and Amrut double cask. Great stuff the lot of them. The port one reminded me of a sweeter less spicy Peated CS.

Furthermore I tried taiwanese Omar sherry cask. A 23 years old vatted malt by Svenska eldvatten, a SMWS bunnahabhain 9yrs, Black adder peet reek, Ardbeg dark cove and ardbeg ten. Also in the ardbeg stand the very nice rep had brought ardbeg new make which I managed to get a sip or two of. 70% ABV with an incredibly sweet and entizing nose without barely any smoke or peat. In the mouth it was a complete taste explosion! Much more peaty, much more smoke and incredible flavour totally without the alcohol punching through even with that ABV. Incredible stuff and definitely my favourite of the night!

Having some 1998 Glenrothes, a 2014 bottling making this a 16 year old single malt.

uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170206/…

A very solid single malt. I am pleasantly surprised at the richness and depth of flavour this bottling has to offer, and at a modest 43% alcohol content too.

Balanced cask influence yielding vanilla with the dried orange peel profile and some cinnamon notes. Pairs well with this medium bodied Cuban cigar - the flavour profiles complement each other.

Having a second attempt at OWA 107. I was blown away by the intensity of flavour on Saturday. This time it's a little less in my face. I added a few drops water and I'm not getting much of a difference...but to be honest tonight isn't a review night and I'm not paying as close attention. Just trying to enjoy.

I should note, @casualtorture, it is a very dreary Tuesday evening with freezing rain...

@Nozinan, I'll have a little wheated bourbon with you. For me, tonight, the gentle Rebel Reserve. Speaking of weather, we just had record high temperatures here, around 20 C, but it looks like it will snow in 24 hours from now.

Starting off with some Kilkerran 7 Sherry wood together with cooking dinner. Let's see where the night takes it. It's Friday, I'm listening to Simon & Garfunkel and feeling good!

There is a blizzard outside. My wife doesn't care. BBQ ribs it MUST be!.

Since my uncle is over, we will have a traditional Friday night dram. When I BBQ and there are lots of cooking smells in the house I like something with intensity and less subtlety. He has never tried Talisker 57 North and so that's tonight's dram. 2 sips neat were wonderful I added a few drops of water and it is harsher. I'll probably have to save most of it until after supper and I expect by then that it will have settled down nicely...
