@OdysseusUnbound isn't it funny when your opinion of a whisky gets turned-around like that. I don't think you'll be disappointed with the 2018 or G&W (well maybe with the price hike), it was one of the highlights of the masterclass.

Macallan 12 Sherry Oak. My, how what seemed ordinary and common 8 years ago now seems quite remarkable by being a sherried Macallan available at $ 70 or less and a sherried Macallan not ruined by sulphur. This is delicious, which is why I have stored away a few bottles of it for the future. I would not buy a bottle of Macallan 12 yo Double Cask, for risk of heavy sulplhur, having sampled @Nozinan's bottle. Thank God I have never yet experienced the same level of sulphur in any batch of Macallan 12 Sherry Oak.

@Victor I have never owned a sulfured Macallan. That less than perfect dram was @paddockjudge's fault.

@cricklewood I’ll have to remember to open the next G&W and forget about it for at least a month. Does the Eleven Souls carry an age statement? Did the good Doctor mention the use of virgin casks and whatnot? How about the Canada 2018? I’ve been told it’s spicy and interesting. Further thoughts on that one?

@Nozinan, for someone who tastes and smells sulphur, that bottle of Macallan 12 yo Double cask of yours is crap. And that is not the only sulphured Macallan I've had. My bottle of 18 yo was tasty, but it was not clean. (As Murray stated about that same vintage. "I could weep") Macallan Editon # 1 was crapped out on sulphur too. I can only conclude that you don't taste sulphur.

@Victor I can taste sulfur, though a little does not bother me, and I guarantee you that no bottle of Macallan I have ever served you contained sulfur, unless it was the small sample of Macallan 25 I gave you years ago. At that time I wouldn't have known Macallan 25 from Glenfiddich 12.

I think the bottle you tasted from was tainted by mine tailings from Sudbury, even if you tasted it in my home.

I take no responsibility for it....

@Nozinan, bring your bottle of sulfur tainted Macallan Double Oak to Maryland and we'll have another go at it.

@paddockjudge I will bring every bottle of Macallan Double Oak I have ever owned with me to Maryland.

@Nozinan, if you bring that Double Cask here @Maddie will like it. She doesn't notice and doesn't mind sulphur. I would sooner drink for pleasure Lambertus 10 yo Single Grain than her bottle of Highland Park Dark Origins. Your bottle of Double Cask is only slightly better than Lambertus...maybe 5 points worth.

I HAVE NO BOTTLE OF MACALLAN DOUBLE CASK!

I don't understand why everyone is pinning the blame on me. Sure, must have been the socialist, everyone says.

Well, it wasn't. Unless @paddockjudge is a socialist.

I would be happy to bring some Lambertus for people to try, but I would need a Hazmat suit to prepare the sample.

@Nozinan, I have my own Lambertus here, unless you really feel the need to compare the two bottles to each other.

You know, my friend @CognacFan was neither joking nor lying when he said that he likes Lambertus. He must know what he's talking about. He's from Montreal.

@Victor As much as that would please me, there is only so much spirit that can be brought across the border.

And apparently, my allotment includes some mystical sulfured macallan attributed to me...

I am not asking for any sulphured Macallan! (I still have a sample from that same bottle.)

@Victor I'm from Montreal too. There is clearly no consensus in la belle province on Lambertus.

It's a good thing you are not requesting I bring sulfured Macallan...'cause I've never owned any.

Tonight I went for CRNHR from the winning year batch. It is spicier than ever with all floral notes going full throttle even if it is the next to the last pour and as it is often the case with Canadian and American whisky using virgin oak, I have now quite a lot of banana.

Jeesh you guys give it a rest, we're all sulphuring now . . . grin

Anyways, my poor attempt at humour may be explained by my decision to literally have one bourbon (1792 small batch), one Scotch (Talisker 57*) and one beer (London Pride) after losing my KO golf match this afternoon.

All lovely but the bourbon was stealing my affection it must be said!

@RianC - I'll add that I find bourbon a better companion to beer than Scotch - as a general rule.

Free commercial samples of Luxco products: Ezra Brooks 90 proof standard bourbon, Rebel Yell 80 proof wheated bourbon, Exotico Reposado Tequila. Also 3 wines and a nice rum. The current Ezra Brooks is a very serviceable basic Heaven Hill bourbon for close to free...about $ 17 with the tax. Not a good batch of Rebel Yell. I would not recommend it. I tasted a very good batch of standard Rebel Yell 9 months ago which I would have enjoyed owning. Not this one. If you want to try Rebel Yell, get the 10 yo or the Reserve. The Exotico Reposado is a very serviceable sipper for a very low price, about $ 17 with the tax. I would buy a bottle if I were out of reposado. Other than El Jimador, this is the only good 100% agave tequila which I have encountered which is very inexpensive.

@cricklewood, I enjoyed the Compass Box Flaming Heart blend, it held its own, impressive considering we had spent the day sampling dozens at Spirit of Toronto. To discover an improvement after a week is good news. Thanks for sharing!

I'm drinking a wee drop of Glenkinchie 12 - the bottle that started it all off for me! Nice revisit, like seeing an old school friend. It's been in the bottle a LONG time, and the bottle has about 2-3cm left in the bottom (I've used a VacuWine on it which seems to hold surprisingly well). Going back to this one now after a while of acquainting myself with a greater variety I must say that I do think it has a very nice and pleasant nose: it's all floral, fresh, bit of citrus zest and some watered apple juice. The palate is fresh too, a hint of vanilla and banana-lemon-clementine. Not much else happening though. The finish is short to medium, with just a hint of bitterness a la Dalwhinnie. Quite a while since a tipple made me smile though (so now Glenkinchie and Uigeadail have something in common!).

I wouldn't buy it again - in fact this was gifted to me... but when the last few drops are gone, it'll be like putting the old family hamster to R.I.P. Bound to happen in the end at some stage, but some cute memories to go with it.
